As winter closes in, it has once again become necessary to abandon the delightfully leafy Fellows Garden, and take our post-philsoc drinks at an indoor venue. I've recently become aware that there are differing opinions as to where this ought to take place. Some prefer the olde-schoole charm of the Wig 'n' Pen, with its fiberglass oak beams and premises-brewed beer; others like the indoor Fellows Bar, with its tastefully orange decor and Admiral's hat-shaped pouffes. Personally, I'm indifferent, and so have elected to put it to a vote (see right).
Please vote only if you attend post-philsoc drinks -- sometimes is good enough-- and please vote only once. (I did consider weighting votes by mean alcohol consumption, but Google has not yet made this information available for some internet users.) I'm sure we'll all be comfortable within the confines of the honour system.
Feel free to comment on this post in an attempt to persuade your peers.
In the unlikely event of a tie, and in-keeping with democratic principles, the venue will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Nice Seinfeld reference.
ReplyDeleteme thinks you need to block the survey results so far to make the meta-survey more interesting
ReplyDeleteAt Fellows there are a) jugs of beer to be had and b) ample space. It's also closer.
ReplyDeleteAt the Wig & Pen there are a) a variety of decent quality beers and b) you don't feel like you're in an airport. It's also closer.

The same pub with the same beers all year round?? A vote for the wig n pen is a vote for change. Yes we can.
ReplyDeleteJonathan, what is the Wig & Pen closer to? Fellows is certainly closer to Coombs.
ReplyDeleteLeon, the W&P is closer to most places people are likely to go to after drinks. It's closer to most (maybe all) restaurants that people usually go to for dinner (whereas going to Fellows is going the wrong way). And it's closer to home for most people (for pretty much anyone who doesn't live in Acton, I'd guess).
ReplyDelete(But I don't really think that the W&P's closeness to restaurants is a particularly important factor. I only mentioned it to mimic the form of Ole's comment and to suggest that location doesn't favour either pub to any significant degree.)

See.. it depends. If we want to encourage people to drink then being close to coombs is superior to all other forms of closeness.
